About Sofia

Sofia Cozzolino is a professional dancer, and certified ballet instructor with deep roots in movement, artistry, and connection.

Born and raised in Rome, Italy with French heritage, Sofia has always been drawn to the grace of ballet and the power that it serves as a means of expression, discipline, and connection to oneself and others.

Her ballet journey began at only four years old, and was followed by more careful training at the late age of twelve. Over the years, dance evolved from a personal passion into a dedicated career driven to inspire, educate, and nurture the next generation of dancers.

Since earning a Masters degree from NYU in Dance Education, Sofia has been designing class plans with attentiveness to benefit the goals and needs of her students. From beginner children’s classes, to adults, and advanced pre-professional ballerinas and ballet dancers, her classes combine strong foundational technique, artistry, and provide a vessel for self-expression. Obtaining a complete teaching certification in ABT's National Training Curriculum, has elevated her toolbox with an infinite amount of richness and resources.

Beyond Ballet Technique, Pointe, Partnering, Contemporary, and Modern, Sofia also teaches Pilates-based Conditioning classes, as well as Yoga and Stretching, which all encourage a mind-body connective approach. She understands the cruciality of a dancer's body's physical care, as well as their mental and spiritual wellbeing.

That is why the curriculum and philosophy integrated in her teaching also heavily supports injury prevention, productivity, and longevity.

Sofia has been involved in countless professional-level productions since the age of 16, dancing soloist roles alongside principal dancers of ABT in Open World Dance Foundation's production of Cinderella, to choreographing for NYU Steinhardt’s Masters students, and later becoming Performance Director and joining faculty at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City.

In addition to her contributions at these major American ballet companies, Sofia has also begun working with dancers one-on-one to refine their technique, build confidence, and prepare for auditions, competitions, as well as professional careers through private lessons both in person internationally, and online.
